I am looking for a basic laptop for light school work. And currently I am looking at the Thinkpad T410, Thinkpad X201, and the Thinkpad Edge E430. Which laptop would you recommend performance wise? Also I am open to other laptops other than just Thinkpads.

At that price, it is impossible to say. Probably not a lot of difference.

Buy the best one you can find, on the day you wish to buy it.

$125 means a used laptop or maybe an older refurb.
Which depends on where you are buying, and what exactly is available.

I buy and maintain numerous laptops for friends and family. I quite like the HP G6 ... you have to be careful though because there are a million variations - we go for ones in the 2000 series. They are quite easy to work on, easy to upgrade and sometimes affordable. I think $125 might easily buy this one (don't pay any more than you have to). It would be great if you had enough left over for another 4GB of ram.

I might just go for a ThinkPad x240 or x230. I found a x240 for 186 dollars which I think its a great deal comes with a Intel i5 4300m
