Hi,

I'm looking for a laptop around 1500$ before tax . I have found that I want a 1tb ssd however I'd rather better performance over storage. I also hope to play Halo Infinite, Personna 5 Royal as well as the upcoming game Hogwarts Legacy.

In other words;
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-8700 OR AMD Ryzen 5 3600.
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM.
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 1080 Ti or AMD RX 5700 XT.
I am currently looking at the Dell G15 as well as the Vivobook pro 16X by ASUS.

Thank you for any assistance on this matter.

Typically any true 'gaming' laptop is not going to be the slimmest thing in the world, meaning an SSD (at a minimum, likely RAM in a lot of cases) will be upgradeable. Of course, not a guarantee in every scenario, but likelihood is pretty good.

Even today, a laptop equivalent (performance-wise) to something like a 1080TI is tough. Excluding RT, you'd need something in the realm of a mobile 3070TI to be in the same ballpark - which pushes you well beyond $1500 CAD, usually.
Where did you pull those specs?
The "recommended" for Hogwarts Legacy for now is a 1070, P5R is a 650TI and Halo is ~RX 570/1050TI?

Absolute "best" raw specs I've seen recently for <$1500 CAD is a 12th Gen i7, RTX 3070 mobile, 16GB RAm and a 512GB SSD.

Unfortunately, upgrading the SSD (or adding a second) pushes you over budget.

Thank you!

As stated in the post I'm willing to switch storage for power. Once again thank you i'll see what other options are within the Aorus line of laptops.

I will update you on my choice.

I don't know how long that NewEgg sale is on.... but if you're not ready to pull the trigger very soon, I'd potentially discount that from your thinking as I can't imagine it'll be available long.

The only other laptop with similar specs (especially the 3070) is $1,600 on sale on Amazon:

Otherwise, you're looking at more 3050/3050TI/3060 territory for the GPU in the ~$1500 range.

I have pulled the trigger. Thank you, after comparing the Aorus 5 to many other options I've found that it was indeed the best option. After more research on the laptop and the cost of upgrading storage it was the best option in my case.

Funnily enough while looking for other options at said range I did also end up find myself looking at the TUF Dash 15.

Thank you for your time.

To conclude the thread:
I chose the Aorus 5 with the TUF Dash 15 as a close second.

P.S.
The origin of the specs I was looking for was the recommended specs for Hogwarts Legacy taken from google.

Yeah, looking at the Steam page.... those do seem quite demanding, especially on the minimums.
A tough ask to hit the "recommended" with laptop hardware, but you should be extremely close with that - and the Aorus 5 is the closest you're going to get in a laptop for <$1500 CAD.

6 Core CPU (i5-8400, R5 2500) + 8GB RAM + a 1070 class GPU for 1080p/60/Low settings
Stronger/hyperthreaded 6 Core (i7-8700, R5 3600) + 16GB + 1080TI for 1080p/60/High settings.
