Hi!

I'm looking for a laptop to serve as basically just a portable typewriter.

I've been doing research for a few days but most of the reviews and comments focus on overall performance, which I don't care about--I have a desktop for "real" work.

What I need is a Windows laptop with:
  • A great keyboard
  • A good screen
  • Long battery life

That's about it. As long as it doesn't take minutes to open Word, I have little interest in performance metrics.

Any suggestions?

I hope that this article will help u :)

Compare few models first.... dont go to shop and buy first one that u like because some guy said that the keyboard is awesome...
I think that when it comes to laptop's keyboard its all about personal prefference - someone wants full size, someone dont, some of them wants tactile feedback, longer press in milimeters etc... Check those models on youtube :)

I suggest MacBook Air 2020. There are plenty of cool writings apps for macOS you can get from the App Store (Ulysses as an example).

You can also get Office 2019 for macOS from the App Store.

Gets on pedistal
MACBOOK!

Probs the air 2020 is the best bet. You can download office onto it but personally would stick with pages or a 3rd party app. (Pages can read Word docs and save files as word docs same with keynote being compatible with powerpoint in the same manner)

A writer would want an excellent display that won’t strain their eyes during long hours of typing. A lightweight device with a long battery life could be a priority for writers who are always on-the-go. Furthermore, screen size, storage capacity, RAM, and software are other minor yet very important characteristics that define the best laptop for a writer.
Reading your requirements, Lenovo Chromebook S345 would fit the most as it is the best laptop for writers on budget.

Though after reading the above blog and seeing the https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XH9RW1G/?tag=tntoday-20 product on amazon, I would have gone with this one.

Because you said you were interested in Windows, I would recommend the Surface Laptop 2. If you don't want to go with Windows, I would recommend the Google PixelBook Go. You can find helpful information here: Best Laptops For Writers
