I'm looking to take the best components from my current machine that I've been slowly upgrading (includes a GeForce GTX 970, 8gb RAM, and several hard drives) and putting them into a new mobo/processor combo, but am unsure where to go.

I was originally looking at a Crosshair 7 and Ryzen 2700X, but was interested in saving some scratch while also not likely noticing any huge differences as it is mostly a home/gaming PC.

I was thinking a Crosshair 6 and a Ryzen 1800X, but am open for other options.

Thanks in advance.

Solution
Nah, forget 1st-gen Ryzen; go with the 2700X and a cheaper motherboard if you must. The 2700X (and other 2nd-gen Ryzen) are on the improved 12nm process instead of the original 14nm, so they have improved IPC over the previous gen.
