Just gotta make sure you are doing a worthwhile upgrade. You can never assume anything giving tech help.

Like 10 years ago, games were still on single core engines. Anyways now, an oc i5 is still maxing games and not bottlenecking a 1080. Even an old sandy. Sure some current games will use more and i7 is better, no one said it wasn't, but the real question was value. Otherwise my original post stating an i7 would have ended this thread a long time ago.

You seem to be well informed enough to make your decision.

It's definitely worth overclocking if you are going with the 3570k tho i highly suggest the h100i cooler or h80i

i3-2120; I would get the i7 as you have suggested if it's only a $10-$20 more. But if it's $50+ extra for the i7 and I won't be using its capabilities then it would be a waste of money.

That's just an urban legend. i7 capabilities will be very helpful in the newer games, who says otherwise is just stuck in 'old school' thinking. Like 10 years old school...

The question isn't if the i7 is better than the i5 in gaming. The real question is if the small increase in performance is worth the extra $130.

And I don't think people are making decisions based on generalized old school thinking. There is a reason why benchmark exist.
