Hi all,

I'm making another 'Blast from the last decade' PC but I want it to be useable with today's standard. By this, I mean my mate wants to play CS:GO with me with at least 60fps.

Now, I know what GPU I am going to get, the GeForce GT730, as it is my new favourite card at the moment (90fps when paired with a C2D E8400!), but the person who wants me to build this PC for them wants to one-up them (in traditional testosterone filled teenager fashion), so I suggested a Core 2 Quad. I do not know whether or not to get the cheaper Q6600 or the monster of a Q9650.

Overclocking is no concern. I am not going to push 8 year old technology to its limits, and I don't need to. I'm just not sure if the extra £40 is worth paying for the Q9650...

Budget is TIGHT (as always) thanks for all the help!

Proposed specs:
Intel C2Q Q6600/Q9650
GeForce GT730 1GB GDDR5
8GB DDR2 800
ASRock G31M-S MoBo
450W PSU (I know it's enough and not dodgy, its branded corsair)

Solution
Your strongest cpu for that motherboard and CSGO would be the E8600. It is a tad stronger than your E8400.
The quads are not as good because the game is largely single threaded and the cores on the quads like even the q9650 are slower.

If you are into overclocking, then how well you can do will be determined by the quality of your particular chip.
