I'm in the middle of a Win2012 R2 server build based on a Supermicro board. I've purchased most components with the exception of a graphics card. The server is going to be a domain controller, file server, and a few line of business apps running on Hyper-V. It's also running a fairly large SQL database, so the actual server specs are fairly beefy. The MB does not have any onboard graphics. With the exception of the initial setup and configuration, the server will be accessed almost exclusively remotely by RDP. So I'm looking for recommendations of a low cost video card that will be compatible with this OS. As far as certified hardware, most of the chipsets seem to be nvidia. But does it have to be certified? For my uses, can I use more of a desktop variant that should work or should I bite the bullet and get a certified (and more expensive) version. This is going to be a main server for a number of years, so stability is important, but at the same time cost is a factor. Thanks for your opinions.
