Question Best method for backing up data remotely

I work for as a software tech for a company that provides a service for it's clients remotely. I need to start backing up some of the clients systems here which will be remotely.

What would be that best method for this? I'm brand spanking new in the tech world and don't really have an idea of how to approach it. We got an old Dell power edge r810 in the other day that has a raid 5 configured on it that I've been playing around with but don't know if this would be worth while or if i should just buy a NAS.

So, would remotely connecting to the client and backing up the data, then transfering it over to my (server/ NAS) be a feasible approach?

Any help is appreciated, some stuff they haven't taught me in school yet.

First, I'd ask my boss if I was unsure. Then I would check the scope of work defined in your contract with the clients. I am saying all this to protect you and your company. Accidentally backing up personally identifiable info or business sensitive info could be a no-no .. Double check before any off-site non-client owned backups are done.
