So I was wondering the recommendations for a mining rig specifically for Monero. Which one do you guys recommend though, CPU or GPU. Because I'm not really sure which one is better for mining, a CPU or GPU. I plan on using a dual CPU and dual GPU mobo but I'm not too sure which type of CPU to buy. Please tell me which one is better CPU or GPU and please recommend the types of CPU so as GPU's. My current mining rig is just a normal PC, My AMD A6-6400K gives about 20 H/s mining Monero while my Nvidia 1030 GT gives 130 H/s. I am aware that I could get more using other setups but please recommend me a good rig. My plan is to have Dual Intel Xeon combined together along with an AMD GPU.

Solution
CryptoNight is the algorithm used to mine Monero. AMD cards generally run the CryptoNight Algo better than Nvidia. For example, a 580 will only get around 100 H/s less than a 1080ti. As for a CPU, you want a CPU that has a lot of L3 cache. The more L3 cache, the more H/s you will get. AMD's Zen CPUs have a lot of L3 cache and are better at CryptoNight than Intel. The 19050x will net around 1250 H/s and the 1800x will net about half as much as it has half as much L3 cache.

For mining, GPUs are much better than CPUs because you can have several GPUs per rig. For the most part, CPU mining is not a profitable way to mine.

LDM,

I'm new to crypto mining but I know this in regards to your question. I have a Intel i3 - 2130 (in an old HP Tower) with two Nvidia 750 Ti GPUs attached to it. I'm getting a total of approx 550 Hashrate mining XMR on Minergate. The CPU accounts for about 35 of those hashes.

I picked the 750 Ti because it uses low power and seems to hash well for the price ( I bought them from the classifieds)

I just also bought another PC which has The AMD A6-6400K like yours. The first benchmarks I got for it shows 10-20 Hashes, so that's fairly poor output. (Again I bought it in the classifieds because the price was right.)

I'd say dont rely on your CPU for producing much as a main source of mining power. There's a reason all the mining rigs out there have a bunch of GPUs strapped to one CPU and MoBo.

Happy mining!

not planning to mine anymore as my cpu is already starting to degrade, could tell from random slowness and drop in fps in certain games.
