I plan on purchasing a 4690K to replace my current FX-8350. I'm thinking of getting the Z97-A. What are your thoughts? If you suggest a different motherboard, my budget is $150.

That's a good deal on the sabertooth if someone's close to a microcenter. They need more locations lol. I picked up the gigabyte z97x ud5h and I think it's a solid board but for me it was only worth it on sale at around $130 after rebates. Right now it's close to $180 and I think that's a bit high for this one. If you can get the sabertooth for that price, go for it. If not the z97-a is also a popular board.

It sounds like kind of a 'basic' board (z97-a sounds a bit generic) but if you head over to asus' website they have a side by side comparison of various boards. The z97 has a z97-a, z97-k, z97-p etc. The "A" model has a lot more features than the others. I'm not talking compared to the sabertooth, but among the various plain letter versions.

Cryofault, I feel your pain. Microcenter had a good deal on the 4690k and I could have saved around $30 getting it there but their nearest location to me is about an hour, hour and 10min away. By the time you factor in gas, 2.5-3hrs total etc, I just bought it online and had it shipped to my front door.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I'll go with the Z97-A - lots of people are saying that it is superior because of its overclocking potential when compared to the MSI Z97 board.
