I want to upgrade a p2-400 I have to a p3-1ghz for a home LAN server computer. Was wondering what mobo I should get for this? Don't plan on overclocking it or anything. Should I just stick to the Asus CUSL-2?

Thanks!

The Intel version of the i815 board should be good for you (sorry, I forgot what the exact model number is).

Intel and Asus make very similar boards. The only reason the Asus offers more performance is because it offers custom settings for things such as memory timing and overclocking. It's because of these custom settings that the Intel is more idiot proof. It is possible to do things with the Asus board, such as set the memory timings too high, which would cause the system to become unstable. Meanwhile, the Intel will always use the memory at it's slowest speed.

get the TUSL-2. It'll run your P3 1 GHz and you'll have the ability to buy a faster Tualatin P3 farther down the road if you want. So maybe you'll have 1 GHz now and 1.5 GHz in half a year on the same board.

I won't even mention AMD chips for once.........damn to late

TUSL-2? Did you mean CUSL-2? Or is the TUSL-2 a new Asus board that can run the 815 chipset as well as the new Tully???

yes, TUSL2-C is the version of CUSL2-C having the i815EP chipset B0 revision and supports Tualatin.
