I have DSL (CenturyLink) and the Modem they sent me absolutely sucks, I have a Linksys AC2400 connected to the modem and its fine and been fine for a few years. The question I got though is on the modem, is there a hundred dollar modem that is capable of not having all the connection issues and slowdowns that this one gots? I assume it can be a line problem to but I have a technician coming out on the 3rd to check and see what the issue with connections and slowdowns are from.

I have a previous thread on the slowdowns but I have not been able to find a modem so I decided to make a new thread, I prefer to buy on amazon though since I get free two day shipping.

Finding just a dsl modem is tough almost all come with the router function. You could I suppose disable the router part by putting it into bridge mode.

I don't think you are going to see a lot of difference unless the one you have is actually defective. A DSL modem is pretty simplistic. The physical interface is very clearly defined so all will meet the standard for the type of dsl you have. You of course need to check but if you have ADSL most are supported by all vendors. VDSL is sometimes a little more tricky but most use the more common devices.

Almost all dsl issues are related to the condition of the wires between your house and the ISP. There should be a phone jack where the line comes into the house. Your best...

The modem is connected to the phone jack directly and the phone is connected to the modem. I still get HUGE fluctuations and always get problems with devices (Usually phones or secondary PCs) getting either limited access or no access to the internet, I really only get "DECENT" internet access on my main PC and all others get like no bandwidth. (Its also not a primary thing in modem/router settings since it is all disabled)

I assume it is a phone line issue from the internet provider since its never really a strong connection, even if I got 100 percent wifi signal I get 50-100+ ping and usually 3-5 Mb/s and rarely at the 7-10 mark it should be at and also .50 upload when I should have 1. (And its not just speed issues its also fluctuations throughout the day one minute it can be 10 the other its .005)

This is on a good day without anyone connected and nothing downloading just my PC and thats it http://www.speedtest.net/result/7255786924.png.

If I have someone connect it goes to half of that and thats only if you can connect a lot of the time you can not connect at all it says no internet access and or limited access.

What model is the modem? The one they've used for awhile is a modem router combo. The older just modem was terrible and would crash with many connections. I wouldn't suggest buying one yourself. As mentioned, the one they gave should just be faulty so get a replacement from them.

Its a Modem/Router combo. I will for sure try to get a replacement from them although they still have till the 3rd of next month... I guess I may have to wait.
