I would appreciate opinions on the best mods to download for the basic C3
game (with 1.29f patch). I'm not looking to change scenarios - only improve
graphics and some some of the settings like better progression of weapons,
more realistic comparison of units (nukes should have better range than subs
in a move), etc. I'm not interested in moving to C3C or PTW - I'm not that
good yet. Still at the Warlord level.

In the past I downloaded Snoopy's mod for better graphics and like it. I
also have Zbear's menu button mods. There are so many available I hoped
someone out there might give me some guidance.

At www.civfanatics.com there is a person who goes by the name Pounder. He
does a lot of modifications/adjustments/changes/whatever to Snoopys
graphics. Alot of his things require using Snoopys terrain as your basic
terrain set.

Any settings you want adjusted could be done on your own using the included
editor for Civ III vanilla 1.29f. If you only edit the rules, you can use
any type of map you want.

BTW, C3C or PTW aren't really that different from the original. You don't
have to be really good to play them. I play conquest all the time and I'm
only at warlord occasionally regent....

Sasha,

Thanks for the response. I'll check out Pounder's mods.

I appreciate your comment on Conquest and PTW but I'm at the higher end of
the age group that visits this newsgroup and don't think I can keep up with
interactive play. My last interactive was in 'Nam in 72.

I just want to play with the best graphics and most realistic rules
possible. The AI gives me enough challenge at this point. Any other pointers
would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry Sasha,

The last post was on a different computer that used "Blueman" as the handle.
This is still me, Chuck. What do you think of the mods posted by Player1
Fanatic and IceBlaZe? Both seem to enhance the rules.

That was a hell of an interactive wasn't it?

I presume you mean multiplayer - you don't need to; both PTW and Conquests
tweak the game-play (for the better, IMO) in single player mode.

Of the two, PTW is the least impressive. It gives you a number of
short-game modes, and eight new civs, and just two new units available to
everyone in addition to the new UUs associated with the new civs.

Conquests gives you a further 8 civs, new resources, several new units, two
new difficulty levels (demigod and Sid) and heaps of scenarios, many with
quite different rulesets.

Are they worth it for someone who isn't interested in multiplayer? I would
say so. Conquests provides everything in PTW, so it's not worth getting the
latter.

I wouldn't know.. The only mod I've downloaded and played is the StarTrek
mod for Conquests that I've helped work on....
