Hi,

I am looking to get a different/better gaming monitor, right now i have an ASUS 60hz monitor but I want to get a 1080 144hz monitor, or a 1440 144hz monitor however i have been reading that my pc specs might not be able to handle a 1080p 144hz monitor...? Is this true;

My PC Specs are;
CPU - i3-8350K
GPU - MSI GeForce 1060 6GB
16GB DDR4 corsair RAM

Thanks in advance.

Solution
will do 1440p, wont be perfect as running everything at topmost quality but will work. Reaching 144fps will also be a trouble, on lighter games it may be doable, on more demaning ones you'll be aiming @ 60fps so you dont lose too much quality.

personally, I bought a 1080p 144hz, for some reason i find 1440p more eye straining and the amount of stuff on your screen makes things look a bit smaller and crowded... but the definition and quality cant be argued with.

aside from the fact that 144hz vs 60hz is a night and day difference, between 1080p vs 1440p comes down to personal preferences, I'd stay with 1080x144hz, i'd even recommend the AOC G2460PF , i find it a fantastic monitor for a TN panel

EDIT: CS is an instant disgrace to...
I would not go for a 1440p monitor. Your PC wont be able to push those pixels with reasonable fps. The 1060 is a 60hz card, but in older games or well optimized games, you will get a benefit from a 144hz monitor.

Pending your budget, I would get a 1080p/144hz monitor with freesync. That will pair well with your current rig.

Thanks for the reply, i understand. However what if i am playing some older game like cs go on medium graphics?

Would I benefit from say a 24" 1080p/144hz monitor with freesync?

EDIT: CS is an instant disgrace to family, dont let your parents know you play that. Anyways, it will run nicely and with high fps, wich is what want on an FPS game. Some argue that Tn panels are better because of the extremely fast response, i frankly think this is a moot point but still.....

also, is it exactly with shooter games that 1440p wasnt for me, with more pixels available more things could be crammed into the screen, and the overall look felt smaller, idk... just not for me.
