Best monitor for PS3 gaming under $200 (60hz vs 120hz)?

I'm looking for a good gaming monitor to hook up with my PS3 and possibly PS4 in the future. My budget is around $200 or less. All I need to have are

HDMI
BUILT IN SPEAKERS
Good picture
Good size (1080p)

Most important, I need a monitor that is MEANT for gaming, and able to withstand heavy gaming. I gamed on an old PLASMA TV that kept on getting image retention and burn in. Gaming damaged the TV and eventually broke it.

Also 60hz vs 120hz, for console gaming right now, is there a big difference between the two? Would 120hz give me a much better picture? I heard somewhere that console gaming is only 60hz but I do not know if that is true. What about the new PS4 that is coming out? Will that make use of 120hz at all?

Any good monitor you guys suggest under $200 is great. Thanks in advance!

i kindly disagree with the 60hz being (about) the max the human eye can register. i own a 120hz, and switching 60 to 120 is clearly different. just dragging a notepad (or any window) is smoother

While its completely false that the human eye can't perceive more than 60fps, a 120hz monitor would be of no use to the OP. Most console games run at 30fps, some run at 60fps. None run higher than that.

120hz is great for PC gaming, but useless for consoles.

First of all, there was a lot more to my post but i havw no idea how it got deleted.

Second, it seems that im hearing 120hz is useless for console gaming. What about next gen consoles? Will they use 120hz at all, or still stick with 60hz? I will be purchasing a next gen console so i want my monitor to work well with that too.

i am far from being this "visualphile" or whatever they call it. but, i can switch my monitor from 60 to 120, and the difference is there. and the NBA game, from 60 to 120 is noticeable.
but again, it depends on whether the rig can push 120, which most of the time it cannot.

3d is nice too, on some games, i play ssf4:ae in 3d, for other games, i dont like it much

For a PS3, you won't ever utilize the 120hz, but as far as using one, the biggest difference isn't even what you see, but what you feel. Higher FPS results in lower latency, which makes games feel more responsive.

There is a valid point for the 60hz debate, but theres also an invalid point:
The valid point is that personally i dont know any game that would run over 60fps for ps3 so if you only want to use the monitor for ps3 then save yourself some money and get the 60hertz if u dont care about 3D (i dont).
The invalid point is that human eyes cant see past 60hertz, i will tell you right now that all people who said this never really tested it for themselves, its just unbelievable how many ppl believe this blindly...

I've tested this. In most games, I can tell a difference until about 80fps, after that, I do not notice anymore fluidity. Some people notice the difference until ~100FPS some more some less; everybody is different, this is a fact. And seeing that most console gamers are content with 30FPS, I don't think arguing about limits of the eye is truly worth it.

As well i'm not sure but is your HDMI on ps3 compliant with 1.4b. If not it won't matter what hz monitor you attempt to run as all previous standards are 60hz maximum. Thats something to consider as well. Not to mention I don't even know of any current monitors that support the new standard to allow a higher refresh.

As for the monitor you listed I don't see that you would have any problem running it.

NOTE: Any LCD or LED screen will be completely free of burn in....the reason they still have screensavers is that there are some people who don't want to give up their old CRT's or Plasma screens for progress....

Well, I for one used to use a crappy old Toshiba HDTV for Wii and Xbox gaming: 32" 1080p, LCD. But when we got a 47" 3DTV for our family room: Sony, 1080p, 240Hz. The difference in the visual quality was astounding....I have to say I can't ever figure out how I was able to even look at a Wii game on the other TV in comparison to the Xbox....now it might have been the TV had a lot more features or upconverted the stream but I have to say I will only buy 240Hz TV's in the future....

@Airm3n: I think the PS3 would be 1.4a compliant at least because it can do 3D gaming....

@OP: I would recommend a new 32" or above 3DTV, they are getting really cheap (we got our 47" for ~$1100), and 3D gaming is going to be the next big thing any way....I would recommend MicroCenter, they had the best prices anywhere at the time I bought mine, and I saw probably most of the TV's in the world on the internet researching it....

Gaming on a pc monitor is completely different than a normal tv. Your tv will only accept 60hz inputs that I can guarantee. It will process and display something over that though. 3D on a tv as far as i'm aware is taking 60hz(60fps) and cutting it in half for each eye.

Going from a graphics card on a computer to a computer monitor you need dual link dvi or displayport in order to display over 60hz. As it stands currently i'm unaware of monitors that even support the hdmi 1.4b standard to allow higher than 60hz. Gaming in 3d on a computer monitor you are running at at least 120fps with 60hz for each eye.

I have no recommendations; however, 60Hz vs 120Hz I can help with. First, Hz is hertz (more on Wikipedia). On monitors (and tvs) that have progressive scan (that's what the "p" is in 1080p, 720p, etc.) hertz are the maximum refresh rate of the screen. 60Hz is about the maximum the human eye can register anyways, but 120Hz is for 3D image displaying where the maximum refresh rate of either of the two images is half of the total refresh rate (so 60Hz each).

Back when Ford built the Model T people at the time argued that cars would never go more than 35 mphs because people couldn't breath air that was blowing faster than that. That argument, despite whatever science was being used, was wrong. Same is true with 60hz and the human eye. The science is wrong.

Just go to your local electronics store and compare a 60, 120, and 240 hz tv side by side. Google the "soap opera effect". The difference is huge. I am saving up to buy this monitor for the PS4. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014344

I am buying a PS4 now but later on after some time (1-2 years) I will buy a PC so should I go for 60hz monitor or 120hz monitor?
I really need some help with this.

if you can buy a 120hz (or a 144) why not? go ahead. i am happy with mine.

one instance that a 120hz is useful (others may not easily see it, just like audiophiles can have more sensitive ears than an average joe)
try an fps game on a rig that can push 120fps, try doing quick turns and you will see the difference. it's like in the movies when they make quick camera turns and the 25 (or 30 fps) is not enough to be smooth
