I am needing to get a new monitor, the one I have now is around 10 years old and the menu buttons press themselves over and over to my extreme annoyance.

My Build:

Intel Core i5-6500 Skylake Quad-Core 3.2 GHz LGA 1151 65W

EVGA 01G-P3-1373-AR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked EE 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

MSI B150M Pro-VD LGA 1151 Intel B150 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400

EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 220-G2-0750-XR 80+ GOLD 750W Fully Modular

I’m wondering what I can get that my older GPU can handle. I mostly game (mostly Overwatch) and watch youtube.

I would like at least 1080p, though I would wonder if more is possible? The last monitor I had was 5ms so I guess at least that or better. I’m not really savvy on whats what on monitors/price points/quality. I would prefer to spend no more than $200 but I could go a little higher. Please tell me if it’s not worth it to get a Monitor without a GPU upgrade because I don’t really want to have to upgrade my monitor again soon. I don’t really have the money to upgrade my GPU yet but the monitor is driving me crazy so I need to replace it. Maybe I could swing a GPU if absolutely necessary - I do want to upgrade it eventually as mine is getting quite old.

5ms response does not mean anything!
The real refresh rate is the one you should pay more attention.
As an idea for your next monitor, if you mainly game, get a good 144Hz 1080p TN display e.g. ASUS VG248QE or similar from other brands like BenQ, etc.
You should be able to find something like that between USD200-300.

GTX460 is quite sh*tt* for todays standard for 1080p gaming, I would really upgrade the GPU too.
460 is like the very minimum for Overwatch. It will run but I dunno how good.
If you really want to max your new 144hz monitor, getting a new GPU is almost like a must!

So is the whole #ms thing is just a marketing thing? I always thought it was important. So mainly refresh rate for smooth gaming is best eh? Do I need to worry about V-sync or whatever they call it now?

I was afraid but expected to hear that about my GTX 460. Any suggestions on best card to get price vs performance?

I also heard that 1070 GTX might be going on sale in November for decent prices. I may try to last without a monitor for that long and try to buy both then.

Any thoughts on a good monitor to go with the 1070 and my PC specs?
