Question Best monitors for RPG's?

I almost exclusively play chill RPG style games, not FPS's. I'm currently thinking of upgrading to a RTX 2080, and want a nice 27"+ monitor to go with it. Is it better to go for a 4k monitor, or stick with 1080p but with a high refresh rate? Price range $250-500. Thanks!

If not playing FPS, very high refresh isn't really noticed in RPGs. Very happy with 4k 60Hz w/ G-Sync myself. Have you considered a compromise 1440? Had monitor with this resolution myself awhile back. Better IQ than 1080, and these days high refresh as well.

I honestly don't know much about different resolutions and other options on monitors. How does 1440 compare to 4k?

Well, just smaller pixels than 1080P if screen size is the same. Typical 2560 x 1440 vs 1920 x 1080. Denser the pixels, the higher the IQ. Though 4k is much more GPU demanding, at least natives non-upscaled 4k.

I expected that the RTX 2080 would be able to handle 4k pretty comfortably. At the moment the monitor I have is https://www.amazon.com/AOC-G2460PF-...words=g2460pf&qid=1561840064&s=gateway&sr=8-3

And my current GPU is a GTX 970, so I'm looking for a bigger screen (27"+) and enhanced display to go with the new GPU.

I see. Sure, the 2080 will handle 4k just fine, just not maxed out settings in newer games. A notch or two lowered here or there is all though to get FPS up. Had a 1080 Ti, basically 2080 minus Ray-tracing, with my 4k monitor. 1440P would be perfect without really compromising settings with a 2080, except maybe very high refresh, but shouldn't matter in your case.

So after some more research, I think 1440p with 144hz might actually be the option I end up going with. Now I just need to figure out which one to get.
