Best Motherboard + CPU for this gaming setup?

I'm struggling to decide on which Motherboard + CPU would be best for this gaming setup. This setup will be strictly for gaming and general usage no video editing or rendering or stuff like that.

So I'm planning on running a 970 SLI however I may think of going tri-sli in the future.

So which Motherboard + CPU would be the best. I'm not sure whether I should go for the Z97 + the older 4000k models or if I should go with the X99 + the newer 5000k models.

Any ideas?

Go with the z97 I don't see any advantage to the 5000k models other than cost your never going to use 12 threads gaming.

Whats your budget and if its only for gaming I would probably go with the I5

also are you only using 1080p? sli and tri sli really wont help you much if its at 1080p. The 970 is a great single card

I don't think you would need more than a 4790K for any sort of gaming. Even at stock the processor will do fine and wont bottleneck. As for the mother board i would recommend the ASUS X99-A, it also supports your triple sli future upgrade.

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming GT this is a good motherboard with either cpu. if your set on tri sli go for the I7

I'm selecting best answer to the most relevant. Asking for a budget when he plans on getting 3 970s, is very illogical. Then suggesting an i5 after, please stop.
