Hi, everyone.

I am no expert at this (in fact, I'm as green as they come), so I need advice about what motherboard would be good for my prospective build.

I am looking to build a system based around the Intel i7-4790K, as well as a single (for now) GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card. I might double up the GPUs later. (I'm not sure about what manufacturer I want to buy the video card(s) from, so any advice about that would be welcome too).

Additional information would be that I am going to probably have 32GB of RAM since this system is going to be for graphics and video editing as well as gaming.

I'll have an SSD, probably from Samsung, and then an additional HDD for storage (1 TB or greater).

I'm honestly confused about the Wifi, Bluetooth, and ethernet features of these boards. Would it be best to get a board with all of these features included, or would you suggest getting a separate Wifi card, etc.? The same question applies to the sound card. What would you suggest?

I've looked at the Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO and it seems to have many positive reviews. I am not sure if it fits everything I've outlined above. I'm also not sure if there are better options that have come out recently. My budget would be anywhere from 100 USD to 250 USD. I'm willing to pay for a good board.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Just use PC Partpicker and Google to find the best deal on your GPU. Look closely at return policy, restocking fees, etc. in addition to price.

For 32 GB of RAM, choose wisely! Be sure to get a "32 GB Matched Set"! Expect to pay dearly!

I have had great luck with the Crucial DIMMS in my sig. Also look at GSkill Tridents.

Your Asus MB has an M.2 port onboard. M.2 bandwidth is 10GB/Sec vs 6GB/Sec for Sata. I wasn't able to find out if the M.2 slot is bootable, but if it is, that would be a great option for your boot drive. Be sure to check ROG compatibility list before buying an M.2 drive! Also, I would get a 3 TB HDD, at least.

M.2 SSDs

Personally, I have no use for Bluetooth.
WiFi? get a good router that has WiFi, IF you really need it.
The Asus MB has Intel GB Ethernet which should be plenty.

Asus is highly regarded by some, cursed by others. Check some of the reviews on Newegg:

Newegg Reviews

19% one egg, 56% 5 eggs. the 19% seems high to me.

I've been really pleased with my MSI MB. Again, some like 'em, some don't. Check out the reviews for what you think you need!

Good luck!

Thanks for your great comments, Yogi. I really appreciate the help.

You said this:

I am not sure if I am confused about things, but I meant that I want the computer to be able to pick up a wifi signal (due to my particular circumstances, I'll have to get my internet via wifi on occasion), but I don't want to turn my computer into a wifi hub. I am just wondering if most of these boards come with a wifi card pre-installed. Is that the case?

Thanks for your advice, Forgotten. I'll definitely check them out.

Yeah, wow. That looks like a choice board. It kind of has everything I was looking for. Thanks, man. I will definitely look into that one.
