abit TH7-II...with or without RAID...i think you can get up to 3 ghz with that cpu and motherboard...
dont forget...get some good samsung rdram too.

Its hard to push a 2.0A to 3Ghz without phase change cooling or LN2

You can expect 2.7~2.8Ghz top end on air

Onto new motherboards, IT7/TH7-II/BD7II/P4T533-C/P4B533/8IHXP

IT7 wins on features, high overclocking out of the box

I retired my TH7-IIR's

The 8IHXP has nice features but is priced higher than all other P4 boards exceeding $200 with shipping.

You are limited to what your mind can perceive.

So what youre saying is that with a good heatsink a 2.0a can be easly pushed to 133 fsb (2.66 ghz)???

i dont think it would be easy...i havent been able to push my P4 2A past 127 FSB (2.54 ghz)...P4 2A's arent as overclockable as the 1.8A's or the 1.6A's...

well it turns out that it ended up being a 2.2a the shop was out of stock and sent the model up for no extra charge 😱)

I am guessing this will be hard to push anywhere at all... Its using the Abit TH7-II I was hoping for a 110-115 FSB overclock, do you think this will be possible ?

Tim

ps: currently the CPU is running between 35 and 44C

That was nice of them. :)

Regarding previous post, stating that 1.8a's have more OC potential that 2.0a's:

What is the max stable range you can expect on a water cooled system with each of these chips? Can a 2.0a really reach 3Ghz with water? What about the 1.8a?

Also, I am a little unclear about which board ended up being recommended, it seems there is a dispute. Does anybody have recommendations with the newest 845e/g chipsets (good overclocking boards?)

i think you should be able to get it at least to 115 FSB with ease...just keep at it...who know...you may "accidently" hit 3 ghz...
btw...your temps are fine...anything under 60C is good.

close to 3....if not 3 ghz.
Can a 2.0a really reach 3Ghz with water?
it is possible...but not guranteed.
What about the 1.8a?
ditto.

your best bet would still be the abit TH7-II...its the board that seems to gives you the best overclock out of P4's. im not too sure what to say about the 845e/g...but i will say that the 845g (with unofficial pc2700 ram support) seems very tempting...

So, the 1.8 and the 2.0 show equal potential to hit 3 on a water cooled system? I guess my big question is which of the not-so-new (under $250) Northwoods should I buy to get some mad clocking out of it.

Thanks!!!

probably...but dont quote me...this is just an assumption based on facts (i hope their facts) ive read.
i think you should just get the 1.8a because they both (2A and 1.8A) can reach about 2.5 air cooled.
