Hello guys,

What is a good motherboard for the AMD FX-8350? I've been looking on the internet but since this is my first build I want to make sure it's good.

Thanks!

how many GPU do you have?
What formfactor are you thinking about?
Do you plan overclock or heavy overclock?
anything else, like special ports, colour preference or watercoolin chipset?

I don't really care how it looks, you can't see the inside when its finished. I just want a good motherboard for an affordable price.
Im going to use the gtx 770

I use a Asus M5A97 Evo r2. if you are not going to use SLI or Overclock the cpu heavily, this is perfect, £75, and has loads of ( I mean LOOOADS of) ports and features

I had the asrock 970 extreme3 and I regret it:no:. I ran into too many troubles with this motherboar. don't get it. get a quality not cheap motherboard that you can over clock you could with as you won't be able to overclock with the asrock

A common problem that you will run into using motherboards with a non 990fx chipset for any of the 8 core chips is that the phasing cycles to cool the mosfets are 4 phase which put a lot of strain on the board if it can even handle it. Look up the board you want and be sure it has 8+2 phasing to be optimal with your cpu. All the 990fx boards have it I stand by saying to use the Sabertooth 990fx rev 2 or a Crosshair V Formula-Z. With those I would know that the heat dissipation is accurate for the cpu and have plenty of room for expansions later.

A tangent to this: What difference would it make if choose any 990 FX MoBo over AMD 970? And which of these 3 is better?

1. MSI-990FXA-GD65 (GD80)
2. ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0
3. ASUS Crosshair V Formula

I am using the MSI-990FXA-GD80 r2 and will highly recommend it to anyone. There are differences with the 990 vs 970 the thing that should effect you the most is the 990 MoBos are made for the AMD FX 8350 where as the 970 are not, it is still the same AM3+ socket, however; since when these 970s where made they where made before the 8350 came out , they where made for the 8150, so if you buy a 970 you will have to update you bios to get the 8350 to work but if you but a 990 MoBo it will work outa the box.

Sorry to have to repeat this, but I neglected Gigabyte as well. Can you check and compare which one among these will be best for it: Motherboards

i would not get any Gigabyte stuff half the time they come with parts hanging off and well to me they have junk. They have bad electric shock protection most of their mobos are still using bios not uefi the best top of the line mobos for the AMD FX 8350 with 990fx chip set and that are highly expandable are MSI-990FXA-GD80 r2 and CROSSHAIR V FORMULA-Z. I went with the MSI but was going to go with the ASUS but it cost more, It has harder to uses UEFI bois, and it was red and my build is Blue and white. The Asus has great parts and so does the MSI. Lots of people will tell you that the Sabertooth 990 fx r2 is the way to go but from forum posts and a friend of mine there junk. I will tell you my friend who has almost the same build as me but the sabertooth mobo cant get stable over clocks past 4.2, im siting at a little over 4.5 stable. Plus if you dont know any thing about over clocking the MSI has OC genie and when I tryed it I was at 4.45 just using that.

If you are just piking from that list you posted id get the MSI-990FXA-GD80 or the ASUS Crosshair V Formula, but just know if you get the MSI one that is v1 not v2. v1 came out when the AMD FX 8150 came out and so if you get that one you will need to flash the new bois to get it to work with the 8350 and if i remember correctly this is the same with the ASUS Crosshair V Formula, it came out when the 8150 was released so flash the new bios and you can use the 8350, same with that sabertooth in your list it is v1 and you will need to flash the new bios.
