Yo

I need a motherboard that can support Core 2 duo. Im only going to spend 100 max. Might go to £115 if its really worth it. I only need the mobo to support Core 2 Duo and to have stuff like ram and pci-e slot thats all.

I will not overclock - not using the machine for gaming, just general use - i.e able to run lots of applications at one time, also use for ripping and burning dvds.

thanks for any help

These 2 ASUS boards are also neck and neck with the Gigabyte boards.

ASUS P5B-E: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=470940

ASUS P5B-E Plus: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=518608

nice :) at similar (lower in some cases) price to some of the 965p alternitives And of course it has two pciex8 lanes for sli too

If you just want a MB and no overclocking. You might want to investigate the ABIT

the ASUS (has 3 ide channels and can do a minor OC)

or MSI (basic but good and inexpensive)

or Gigabyte (will overclock well if you want to later)

I don't know if you noticed, but he said 100 pounds..not dollars. That means he's from the UK, and Newegg is out of the question. :) For ~100 pounds, he can get a nice mobo.

get the higher end asus boards - they have better audio, and wireless built in. the p5w-dh has multi -sata contollers so u can have a boot drive and raid seperate - less problems that way

i use p5w-dh myself its $225 usd and p5n-e $150 - these are dual pci-x.

Oh and the whole 100 pounds doesnt have to go for a motherboard. He could use some of it toward a better cpu or gpu. After all, he did say he just wanted a solid board. Of course, if he's interested in spending the whole 100 pounds on the MB then there are boards with more gizmoes out there 😛
