I have a 850 watt psu, a motherboard that can only support 2 way sli/crossfire, and 2 1080p monitors with a HDMI and DVI connectors. Budget is around 600-1000 dollars depending on money from Christmas and sales. Power consumption is not an issue as long as it will work on my current psu(I don't pay the energy bill). Looking to get 40+ fps on most games. What would be the the best graphics card solution for 4k gaming at near maxed settings?

Solution
We know where 970s and 980s sit relative to the others. R9 295X2's are still $1150 each. Or get 3 x gtx 970's.

2 x 1080p plus 4k will be 6k. You don't stand a chance. You'd need $2000 video cards to get the same fps you're getting now on 2 x 1080p's.

Sorry, this was really poorly worded, what I meant is I have 2 1080p monitors and would be putting a 4k monitor in the middle.

Also @i7Baby that source is outdated, thy was posted in May, since then Nvidia has released new cards and AMD has made serious price cuts.
