Any suggestions? I'm eyeballing the Asus M2N-E but want other suggestions to compare it to and consider. I don't need to OC and I don't need SLI. I'm currently considering NVIDIA nForce 570/590 series based boards, though I'm open to other suggestions. My cap on the cost of the board will be about $125, though closer to $100 would be preferred. Some basic requirements would be PCI-E X16, 4GB+ memory support, 4+ SATA-300 ports. Thanks.

Looks like a nice board and I've had really good luck with ASUS. If you can settle for a 550 this MSI board will save you quire abit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130050

My only 2 gripes about that board are the lack of a 2nd ide port and the location of the floppy connector. Unfortunately all but 2 of my 7 or 8 hard drives are Ultra-ATA IDE, not Serial-ATA. I currently have 2 sata-300 and 2 uata-100 drives as well as 1 ide dual layer burner. I'd be short of a single connection, so I suppose I currently require 2 ide ports. So close too. Damn. I'm going to do more research. Hopefully I'll find other choices to choose from, though I am a faithful Asus customer. I'd consider MSI, Abit or Gigabyte as well. Thanks for the info.

Doing a quick check on newegg it looks like your choices are limited if you need 2 ATA connectors. None of these look that good. I believe you can get a PCI card that will allow you to connect more ATA drives

This is true. The promise cards are fairly easy to find. As long as they give good performance w/o any problems, errors, etc. I only need 1 pci slot for my sb audigy. I can always remove the modem I have (emergency backup for email) and just not worry about that.

I have the MSI K9N-Platinum that I bought from the egg at $109 or something, although I'm sure it's cheaper now. It's a great board. It handles all of my hardware without any problems. I would recommend it to you with NO reservations.

They got a new one for $125 and an open-box unit for $90. A friend of mine on irc has that board. It looks like a model worth considering. I'm unable to locate the non-sli version however, as newegg doesn't carry it and neither does zipzoomfly. I'll shop around. Thanks for the suggestion.

Isn't that a socket 939 board though?

I had a brain fart and read the New Egg page upside down.
It is an AM2 board. I retract my previous statement.

What about getting an U-ATA to PCI card from a company like Promise?
Something like: PROMISE ULTRA133 TX2-ROHS IDE ULTRA ATA 2-CHANNEL RETAIL
