I've been reading trough the board for quite a long time and I still can't decide what to get. I already bought a really nice case equiped with 5 fans. I want to try Oc'ing
Athlon XP 1800 Tbred B (store near my place as them for a good price). Mobo will probably go for A7N8xDlx . My main concern is with RAM. I know good mem is critical but I really have to minimize the costs (the Asus is already very expensive). I can get Kingston 333DDR at an excellent price. Would that be good enough ? Do I absolutly have to go with Corsair ? An last but not least, what are the settings I should work with in the BIOS when I OC ? What are the optimal settings. Thanks a lot

It deppends on how much you want to overclock. I'd get DDR333 CAS2 or better.
You don't need to go w/ Corsair XMS. You can go w/ Kingston HyperX, OCZ EL, Geil, Mushkin.

When overclocking check if your AGP is locked at 66MHz and PCI at 33MHz. Set the memory timings to the minimum posible. You can increase the CPU and memory voltage to get it more stable. Increase the FSB and lower the multiplier too.

I highly suggest the Epox 8rda+ for your overclocking needs. It has excellent power regulation, as well as a high stability even at bus speeds over 200.

Instead of Rdram, why not just merge 4 Sdram channels...

I on the other hand recommend SolTek over ASUS, MSI, or EPOX. They are less expensive and offer better overclocking features. I recommend the SL-75FRN-L from SolTek, as it will offer you more overclocking features then any other main board available. The BIOS is loaded with overclocking features and is the best I have ever seen! I personally am running an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 333Mhz FSB with some OCZ EL ram (DDR333 CL2). I grantee you that this board is less expensive then the ASUS and it will run circles around basically every other nForce2 platform available no matter the cost! Check it out. The board retails for ~$100 USD (I paid $93 for mine) and is available from many Internet venders. Check out there website for more details as well as links to reviews! The site is WWW.SOLTEKUSA.COM they also have a list of retailers under the “BUY” section of their site.

I recommend the Epox 8RDA+... it is an overclockers delight with an enormous amount of settings.

My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dims when I turn it on 😱

Don't rule out the FIC AU11 Chamelion (same board as Epox 8RDA+ for less money).

99% is great, unless you are talking about system stability
Edited by phsstpok on 03/07/03 03:59 PM.

Hmmm...
I have been checking out the Soltek and it is NICE!!!
Only it lacks SATA and i beleve the FSB does not go above 200MHz. Should not ba a major setback.
I was going for the ABIT NF7-S but now the Soltek is going to be mine... Saves me €/$ 30,-, that's half my XP1700+
But if you have enough to spend the ABIT offers a little more...

The new epox board, the 8RDA3+ supports even higher fsb speeds, 233 i think isnt unrealistic. Not seen many reviews but basically its the same board with more support for higher fsb's. If your serious about o/cing, this board is a sure winner!
