Hi,

I need to buy a second PC (Intel or AMD) and I currently have a ryzen 3600 I was thinking of getting a minor upgrade at the same time. I will use either 2070/2080 or 3090 GPU. I currently have the options of a used 9900k, 9600K, 10940X, or Ryzen 3900x.

Currently the used PC with Ryzen 3900x is the cheapest, but I've read on many posts that it has a lot of micro stuttering problems when gaming. I do moderate gaming and photo editing.

So should I just skip these older CPU:s and just wait for newer ryzen 5000 series to be on sale used ? How big issue is the 3900x micro stuttering, and is is more usual for higher core older CPU:s ?

Not sure about micro stuttering but I suspect that for strictly gaming you won’t see much difference between your 3600 and a 3900x. You should consider imo updating the bios of your motherboard and get at least a ryzen 5 5600. Though if your board supports it, you could look at the 5800x3d as well. But a ryzen 5 5600, 5600x, or 5700x should be good choices.

Thanks for your reply. I just need to buy a second computer and I stumbled across this one with the asking price of 450 $/£. I currently have the 3600 with MSI B550 Carbon gaming Wifi. So seems like I would have pretty similar results with this one.

- AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
- Corsair Hydro H80i V2
- MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WiFi
- 16GB Kingston HyperX 3200mhz RGB
- 500GB Samsung 980 M.2 NVMe SSD
- NZXT H510 Tempered Glass
- Corsair RM650X 80Plus Gold

I could of course later on upgrade to 5000 series with either computer.

Not seeing a gpu in the system you are looking to buy so you'd need to add that one to make it function. I'd probably consider swapping out the 3900x for at least a 5600 if this is a gaming build. The good new is I just did a search on ebay and it looks like the 3900x is selling on ebay for right about 200 bucks, maybe just under. It looks like the 3600 is sometimes going 30-60. Maybe 70-80 if you are lucky.

So that would give decent upgrade options for both pcs if you go that way while the current cpus have some value. I would suggest if you go to zen 3, don't get the ryzen 5 5500 though. It's a decent cpu but is not much faster than your current 3600. So to feel an uplift you want at least a 5600/5600x or better. If you aren't a gamer or if one of these pc's won't be for gaming you could look at the 5600g or 5700g though.
