I just got two PCs. Both don't have OS installed. First has AMD Sempron 2800+, 1 GB RAM and 120 GB HDD and 128 MB GPU. Second has AMD Athlon XP 2700+, 512 MB RAM and 40 GB HDD and 64 MB GPU. I thought I could use Windows 7 but I think it could be too slow. XP for these machines would be great but it is out of support. I am planning to reinstall and sell these PCs and earn some money. What OS should I choose?

Solution

No OS at all, or Linux.
Trying to upgrade this hardware, and provide a valid Windows OS (~$100), will cost more than what you can charge for these.

My MOBO has 2 slots of DDR400 memory. Both have 512 MB RAM inside.

We can't tell you what RAM upgrades are possible without knowing motherboard make & model. Also need to know that so we can advise if it supports Windows 7 (ie there may be no Win7 drivers for it).

A motherboard is ASRock K7VT4A+ REV. 1.01. RAM is DDR400. Has AGP 8X connector. Two RAM slots. The CPU socket is Socket A aka Socket 462. I see that only support of operating systems is Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000, Windows ME and Windows XP. Max 2 GB of RAM but finding RAM would be impossible.

I think will just install Windows XP Professional SP3 and Office 2010 and sell this computer for 15 euros or so. They cost about this price. Thanks for help anyway.
