Have Asrock mbs AB350M-Pro4 and B450M-Pro4. Have Ryzen 7 1700 and Ryzen 5 2400G cpus. Which pairing would be the best way to go? I don't understand the difference between the B450 and AB 350 Promontory chipsets. Can anyone point out the differences?

Basically, B350 came out with the 1000 series CPUs, and B450 was the equivalent chipset for the 2000 series CPUs.

If you've been sitting on these boards for a long time, chances are the B350 won't support the 2400G and will need a BIOS update.
It will support the 1700 out of the box.

Luckily, you have a 1000 series CPU, which will allow you to update BIOS' as necessary anyway.

You're looking at equivalent boards anyway so, provided the relevant BIOS is installed, you could pair either/or with either/or and see no difference in performance.

This does a good job of listing the difference between the B350 and B450 chipsets:

And I would pair that Ryzen 7 1700 with the B4540 MB as long as you have a Graphic card you can use with it.
If you don't have a separate graphics card then the Ryzen 5 2400G is really your only choice until you do get a graphic card.
