I just completed a build today with one of the DIY ~$40 cases and it looks rather nice. Similar to the one above but slightly different front panel and red LED instead of orange. I was expecting it to be junk but it really wasn't bad at all to build with, descent cable management, and 3 quiet system fans.

This is tough. On the one hand, I would prefer the .5GHz boost that the "In a Dream" system has, but it kills me that the system has half of the storage for $7 less. And while 8GB is the recommended amount of ram for VR.... I can't get behind skimping. Although I suppose the argument could be made that the motherboard has 4 DIMM slots for later upgrades.

There were a lot more creative builds submitted than this - these two are nearly identical. I can't figure out why anyone with that budget would spend the money on Skylake instead of AMD or Ivy Bridge, and then using the extra cash on a better GPU or an SSD.

Exactly. They are too similar. I was looking forward to more options. I voted the Blood Orange but there were better submissions.

Those were the only submissions that met minimum specs, be it hardware speed or the proper USB connectivity. I think many people assumed new hardware would have the required connections for VR when in fact much of the stuff on the lower end does not. A $900 or $1000 budget would have allowed for a better selection.
