Best pc for gaming

Solution
This should have nearly the same performance as my first suggested build in games:

An i7-4790K would perform better than an i5-4690K, but only a little bit.

Overclocking your CPU probably won't get you better performance in [most] games, as they're more GPU reliant (anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong), so I dropped down to a Hyper 212 EVO.

Most games won't use more than 6GB of RAM as I said earlier, so 8GB RAM will be more than enough.

I kept everything else the same.

Did you make a typo on the budget? That's a LOT of money!

This is what I came up with:

EDIT: updated build to include OS + peripherals

For gaming, you most likely won't use more than 6GB of RAM, but you have the budget so oh well.

Maximus VII Hero is highly regarded around here.

GTX 970 SLI should get 1440p 60FPS+ easy. Here are 2K benchmarks: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_970_sli_review,16.html

The case is pretty flexible. My first pick would have been the Enthoo Pro, but that wasn't available for selection, so I just chose the Corsair 750D which is also a really nice case from what I've heard.

Went with a Seasonic PSU because they make some really nice ones. 850W will be more than enough for SLI + overclocking.

For your budget, you could get the ASUS ROG Swift as well which will have G-Sync. The monitor I have selected is an IPS monitor with a good response time so it should be good for gaming.

Add a Third 970 later on and you'll be gaming at 100+ fps in almost all games.I could've added it in this build but there won't be enough money left for keyboard and mouse. And I you should choose keyboard and mouse not me.
