Hi everyone

some time ago I asked for exactly the same thing, then I decided that I could still manage with my old built for a little longer. Well, now I believe it's finally time for renovation (before it dies on me for the last time without giving me the chance to backup my work)!
So, would you please suggest me whatever I need, piece by piece, to get the best PC built I can possibly get with about £1,000 budget? Need it for both gaming and video editing.
I won't need the screen, as I am still quite happy with what I've got so far, I might need to upgrate in the future, but not for now. I don't know if bluethooth connectivity is a given nowadays, but it would be nice to have it, as well as wireless internet, of course.
Also, I would like a case that is easy to clean, if such a thing exists?? Nothing fancy, but I would love something that doesn't gather too much dust, if that's possible (although I understand it might be more of a ventilation flow kind of thing).
Lastly, is Windows 11 safe/stable to run, now? As I remember being quite a few issues with it, but that was a while ago.

Thanks!

For gaming as well as video editing, I suggest you optimize towards gaming.
Longer editing run times are easier to tolerate than gaming glitches.
Look for good reviews of the upcoming AM5 and intel 13th gen processors.
You want a decent balance between cpu and gpu capability.

Keeping parts clean is not hard if you buy a good case.
You want a single source of fresh air intakes that has a washable filter.
With your budget, you are probably looking at a mid range processor that is easily cooled with an air cooler in such a case.

Get yourself a cheap USB flash drive, download Windows Installer and use the free version of Windows for now.

Thanks guys for the replies!
@geofelt never thought there were fans with washable filter! That's a great idea. So, considering the set up recommended by Why_Me, what fans would you buy? And how often should I clean tha filters?

@Why_Me thanks for this! It looks like you listed the motherboard B660M twice (the second time being at the very end)? Or perhaps they are two separate things and I didn't notice?
How many USB ports would I have with this build on the front and how many on the back?
Also, if by increasing the budget a bit more would make a make the set up much more powerful/future proof? What would you change in that list? If the difference won't be that much than I would rather stick to my original budget.

Anyone who would do slight changes to Why_Me's set up?

Thanks again guys, keep it coming!

Oh, that's definitely a sexier case! Does this have filters? Is that because you changed it? Also, it doesn't allow me to open the last link you wrote? But looking at the name, it looks like the same case.

oh actually, I see it only has 2 USB ports on the front? Would be possible to see something that has more? I currently have 4 on the front, two of which are permanently used, so I think 4 would work best for me!

That case has dust filters and a fan speed controller. 2xUSB 3.0 seems to be the standard these days although a few of the Lian Li cases (and probably other brands) have 3 USB ports on the front of their cases. I'm not sure what current cases have four USB ports but they probably exist.

I see, thank you Why_Me.
Okay, MAYBE I am able to get as far as £1,500, but only if that makes a nice difference. What would you change then, considering the higher budget?

Ok, so you think it's definitely worth the £500 more? By the way I don't don't I would need 2TB of storage, 1TB is plenty, as I also have a couple of SSDs that I can take from my old pc and use them as secondary storage.

Apart from the CPU which is of course more powerful, can you please tell me the main difference between this last graphic card and the one you mentioned for the original budget?

Thanks!

Ok so... to sum up, the build for the £1,500 budget is:

https://www.cclonline.com/ph-ec400a...se-p400a-mid-tower-gaming-case-black-usb-3-0/
Phanteks Eclipse P400A Case £70.12

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08WH3XV6G
ARCTIC F12 PWM PST 120mm PWM 4-Pin Case Fan £8.49

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DLVX662
Corsair RM550x 550W 80+ Gold Modular Power Supply £69.98

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...ntel-b660-ddr4-atx-motherboard-mb-6hn-as.html
Asus TUF Gaming B660-Plus WIFI D4 £169.99

https://www.box.co.uk/BX8071512700F-Intel-Core-i7-12700F-12th-Gen-Desktop-Pr_4094467.html
Intel Core i7-12700F £325.99

https://computerorbit.com/products/deepcool-ak620-high-performance-cooler
DEEPCOOL AK620 CPU COOLER £45.83

https://www.ebuyer.com/1537611-klev...powerful-enhanced-desktop-kd4agu880-32a160tk2
KLEVV BOLT X DDR4 3200Mhz 32GB (2x16GB ) CL16 £84.99

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09HKDQ1RN?th=1
(I changed to 1TB, as 2TB might be too much for me)

https://www.ebuyer.com/1265991-msi-...graphics-card-rtx-3060-ti-ventus-3x-8g-oc-lhr
MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ti VENTUS 3X 8GB OC LHR Graphics Card £419.99

Is this correct? Did I miss something? The total would be around £1270, so I assume going all the way up to £1,500 won't do much?
Also, I'm stil not sure about the case. It looks great, but I think I might need at least a USB type-c port too, as well as the USB 3 ports. So, can I please be a pain and sk you for another option that includes that, while keeping pretty much a similar dimension (especially width, if it's too wide it won't fit in my desk) and the dust filters?
In the meantime I will be doing some research too.

Geeting there! Thanks

Ok, while doing some research, I realised that there are now even USB ports 3.2, as well as "Super Speed" UBS (I know, I am pretty behind in all this)? So I think to have a case that is as future proof as possible, it should have:
  • at least two USB 3.2
  • at least one SS USB
  • one USB type-C (it would be ideal to have it, but if that makes the search too difficult, then I am fine not to have it and use an adaptor, as long as everything else is there)
  • Of course... dust filters!
  • No wider than 22.5cm

I will resume searching as soon as I can, in the meantime please let me know if any of you have any recommendation. I want to be using this build for many years to come, so every little detail counts!

Thanks

Here's the two most popular upper tier gaming cases imo. The Lancool III was just released a few months back and is the more expensive of these two cases.

Future proof isn't a thing, but you are picking a bad time to build, with that low of a budget, if you want something with future upgrade support. AM4 is dead, LGA 1700 is done, after 13th gen comes out, in October. AM5 just came out, but the platform is just too expensive, right now.

This is the setup I'm wanting to see the reviews and pricing.

ok, so you think it might be worth waiting until October/November? I think I can manage a while longer, if that would make the difference.

@Why_Me thanks for the two options, which look great, but unfortunately they are both just a bit too wide and won't fit into the spot I have in my desk.

Anyway if it's best for me to wait a couple of months then I am happy to do it, in which case can I keep this thread open until then? Or let me know if I will have to open a new one.

But thanks for the help so far, greatly appreciated!

Hi Guys,

so, I was thinking to wait until the next Black Friday in November, hoping that I would save some money that I would spend getting even better components? What do you think? In which case, what changes would you make to this list:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08BX31...linkCode=osi&th=1&ascsubtag=ecSEP377xl8mtr06c
Case £83.47

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08WH3XV6G
ARCTIC F12 PWM PST 120mm PWM 4-Pin Case Fan £8.49

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DLVX662

Asus TUF Gaming B660-Plus WIFI D4 £169.99

https://www.box.co.uk/BX8071512700F-Intel-Core-i7-12700F-12th-Gen-Desktop-Pr_4094467.html

DEEPCOOL AK620 CPU COOLER £45.83

https://www.ebuyer.com/1537611-klev...powerful-enhanced-desktop-kd4agu880-32a160tk2
KLEVV BOLT X DDR4 3200Mhz 32GB (2x16GB ) CL16 £84.99

Perhaps getting DDR5, instead of 4?
And what if I manage to get to £1600/1700 budget, instead?

Also, I changed the tower case in the list, would that still be compatible with everything else?

Thanks

A budget of 1700 would get you a much faster rig. Games are getting bigger and bigger. 1tb might not last long, but storage is an easy upgrade, if/when needed.

Thanks @logainofhades for this!
A few questions:
I would actually prefer the case I listed in the previous mesage:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08BX31...linkCode=osi&th=1&ascsubtag=ecSEP377xl8mtr06c
would that still be compatible with all the other components you recommend?
Also, from the pc builder link it says:

"
  • Warning: The MSI PRO Z690-A ATX LGA1700 Motherboard supports the Intel Core i5-13600K 3.5 GHz 14-Core Processor with BIOS version 7D25vA7. If the motherboard is using an older BIOS version, upgrading the BIOS will be necessary to support the CPU.
  • B
Note: The Deepcool AK620 68.99 CFM CPU Cooler may require a separately available mounting adapter to fit the MSI PRO Z690-A ATX LGA1700 Motherboard.
  • C
Disclaimer: Some physical dimension constraints are currently not checked, such as CPU coolers and RAM clearance.

"

Do you confirm that it's actually all good and I won't need any additional bits to make the build work?

And finally, is there anyone who would rather recommend different components than what logainofhades recommended and why?

This is really promising!

The bios will need to be updated. The board has a bios flashback capability, for you to be able to do this.

Unless the cooler is from really old stock, it should have the bracket already. I have seen reviews dating back to January that said it had LGA 1700 support. If this indeed the case, you can get an LGA 1700 bracket, from deepcool.

https://global.deepcool.com/company/pressroom/newsrelease/2021/14926.shtml?id=PressRoom

I also chose shorter ram, but clearances should not be an issue, even with slightly taller modules.
