I am planning on picking up the new i7-4770k processor for a rebuild of my current rig but i am having trouble finding a motherboard to put this beast in. I want atleast 2x pci 3.0 express slots for future graphics upgrades and 1 pci 2.0 express slot for my current GPU. I am willing to spend about $150 tops on the board as the processor is $340. I will be transferring my 8gb of ram and gtx 560 ti pci 2.0 gpu to the board. I'm not concerned about compatibility issues here. Please post suggestions on boards that work with this processor. I have looked at newegg and found a few but need some other eye balls on the subject. If you know of bundles that are worth it im interested in bundle deals also. My current tower holds micro and normal ATX boards but i am only interested in ATX boards, no micros.

Alright i have searched the list and came up with these 3 combos...If i have to sell my pci 2.0 GPU and buy a 3.0 i will, just be nice to use the card i have as its only a few months old. Which of these combos do you guys think is the best? Price wise they are very close and in specs.

Im leaning towards the Gigabyte board but the red/black MSI board is SWEET looking! I currenly have an msi board an have no real complaints but im not against gigabyte at all. Hopefully the combos will be available come black friday/cyber monday and i can pick it up :)

Well im worried that the PCI 2.0 slot is only running at x4 and not x16 which means my card will be throttled back 🙁 I guess i can try it and if im not getting the fps from the card as i should ill just sell the card and replace it with a 3.0 card...don't lose anything by trying that. If i went with the MSI i would have to sell the card and replace it but at least with the gigabyte i can see how it performs at only x4. I'm hoping the i7 4770k processor makes up the performance difference over my current amd phenom ii x4 955 BE i bought 4 years ago. It was good then when the 1st gen i7s came out but now im expecting the 4th gen i7 to totally smoke it! I supported the little guy but the i7's are just so beast i can't take it!

Im working on getting BF4 to 100+ fps at atleast medium/high settings... my friend has the i5 2550k with a radeon 7800 and he gets 100+ fps on low/medium settings...while i struggle to get 35-45 on low 🙁 I expect i'll have to upgrade my gpu to reach the 100 fps but if i can maintain 60+ on low, its worth the upgrade. After researching my cards performance toward BF4, the card can handle higher settings with a newer processor. Hoping the massive processor upgrade will make up the difference!

You can run a PCI-E 2.0 card in a 3.0 slot. They are all compatible. You are overthinking the situation. Until yesterday, I had been running HD 5850's in crossfire, that are 2.0, in a 3.0 slot for over a year. You can put any PCI-E graphics card into any pci-e x16 slot. I could run my old 7600gt (pci-e 1.0) in my board if I wanted.

Interesting! So plugging a 2.0 card in a 3.0 slot will work but it just doesnt take advantage of the 3.0 slot...basically the same idea behind a 2.0 and 3.0 backward compatible USB slots?

Correct and good analogy. I could also put my PCI-E 3.0 HD 7970 into my P67 extreme4 that has PCI-E 2.0 and still be fine as well.
