i think the best will be Q6600(of course) and personally i think E7200 will be a better price/perf dual core since its about 40% cheaper then the E8400 and can also overclock to above 4Ghz.

The Q6600 is the best for quads, but the E5200 is the best for duals.

1/2 the price of the E8400, the main difference is that it has reduced 2MB L2 cache, compared to 6MB on the E8400. This will make it 5 - 10% slower per clock in general, but at $90 its hard to beat from a price/performance POV, especially since previews have had it overclocking to 4GHz.

epsilon has a good point. The e5200 has a fsb of 200 which is quite low and a multiplier of 12.5 which is, looking at the other core chips, insane. Considering the price theres nothing that can go wrong by buying it.

+1 E5200

With the low default FSB and 2Mb cache at that price.... Its a crazy deal!! It also pwnns3d AMDs low end lead with the Opteron 1210.

(I have recommended that CPU to my flatmate for an upgrade. 50.00 quid over here - it's a steal!!)
