Hi, I'm looking for a processor that can do quite a bit of gaming. I will also be multitasking A LOT. I'm not going to be video editing or using CADs. I don't mind if it has a locked or unlocked multiplier. I'll be using this for 1080p or 1440p gaming depending on what I get. Thanks for the feedback!

My current choice is the 4790k, I'm just wondering if there may be some alternatives. 5th Gen Processors require DDR4 memory and the X99 chipset, which are pretty expensive all together.

True but with your budget might be a worthy investment. The I7-5820K will help with your multitasking but actually will likely perform worse in gaming than the 4790K.

Yeah, I've heard that more cores is actually worse for gaming, so the best thing you can get right now for gaming is a processor with 4 cores. Though I think that the 5820k shouldn't bottleneck gaming too much.

More cores is not worse for gaming. The reason being is that the 5820K's base clock is lower than that of the 4790K. If they were clocked the same performance should be better on the 5820K.
