Best processor for streaming video 2009

I am in the market for a new laptop and the last one I bought was in 2003. I am a room to room at home user. I want to check emails, surf the net, and watch streaming video such as full episodes of tv I miss or you tube.. I am very confused and want to spend less than $500.00 for a fast, clear computer.
