hello,
3rd try here, hope this one gets through. I am going to buy the Sager np8150 with the gtx 580m card and was wondering which processor would be the best match. Was thinking the i7 2860qm with 16gb of Ram @1600mhz. Is this overdoing it? I don't want to be wanting more a year from now. Thanks for any info.

the i7 2860QM is a very solid CPU that will perform very well, what other CPUs do you have to consider? The only other ones better than that are the XM Extreme ones and those are significantly more expensive no matter where you are. All things being equal (Cache, cores, etc) the difference is the clock speed, and the 2860QM is at the top of the list compared to its brethren. If you have the money, get it. If you want to compare it to another one, which one?

Wow - have you priced out your build with todays prices?
I got mine in January with 2760, 16gb@1600, 500gb hdd, Blu Ray reader, matte display, 6990m, win7pro, Ic7 thermal compound, Intel Advance N wireless & BT ...

for $450 less than it is now. '0.0'

I see they removed the 580m option too.

Still debating about the processor, if the difference is only what you can see on benchmark and not in real day to day use I can get the 2760 and use that savings for the 95% Color Gamut screen.
But my choice for video card has been made for me as only the 6990m is available now. Also going with 16 gb @1333hz because I did read where you can't tell the difference there either except only on benchmark. Getting the Intel 520 180gb ssd for OS, programs and games and 500 gb hdd for documents, pictures, etc., matte display, Sager Intel advanced wireless, Home Premium, Microsoft Office Home & Student. Total price would be about $2400 (!)
I always thought if you wait this stuff gets cheaper and better. If Ivy Bridge was coming out sooner than June I'd wait but I'm itching to pull the trigger as I've heard nothing but good things about this NP8150. Thanks to all for your advice!
