best program to import images from a camera and save as jp..

would anyone recommend a program to import images from a camera and save
them as a gif or jpg, I have tried photovista but it doesn't save them as a
jpg or gif.

Your camera probably saves your photo's as JPG internally. If your camera
(or a card reader) shows up as a drive letter in Windows, you should be
able to simply copy the files from the camera to your hard drive. To make
this process easier, you may want to try a program like PhotoCopy:

My camera exports as JPG or TIFF, and I use AcdSee for viewing/managing
them - it has the ability to rotate, view, resize, change format (to
many other formats) and it will even create webpage layouts with
thumbnails and then full res-images. It will also do sample sheets of X
by X number of pics on the same printed page.

If you're up to it, Paint Shop Pro is a great way to start in to this.

The best way is to use a card reader, and simply copy the files to your hard drive. If
you open them first in any program, and then save to a drive on your computer, you will
lose some quality, unless you save in a lossless format. Every time oyu save as a .jpg,
the quality of the image is degraded by at least a little.
