Been having trouble formatting my Corsair Neutron XT 240gb clean. I cannot get rid of a partition on the SSD. I'm trying to install an OS over it, but it doesn't let me delete a partition or the primary, etc..

What's the best way to go about? This is the first time I have had trouble with an SSD of this nature.

Solution
puppy linux is listed first because it is in my toolbox. under 500 megs, the entire OS can run from ram. very useful. every geek needs his puppy.
Linux mint is my main desktop OS, listed second, is bigger more user friendly but will boot from usb and run without touching the system.
yes use rufus to put your choice on a USB drive
is your current OS on the SSD?
if it is you cannot wipe it from within windows. you will need to start the install and delete the partition from the installer.

if the ssd is just for extra storage the disk managment console in windows should be able to delete the partition.
right click on computer>go to manage> open disk manager> highligh the selected partition and delete it.

Yeah that's how I've been doing for it years! I agree fully well, and I have wiped hard drives from the disk manager as well.

This is my Corsair SSD details during Win7 installation that doesn't let me do anything to these states, whether choosing Delete or Format.

When I choose Format on either selection I get this message: ''Failed to format the selected partition. (Error: 0x80070057)

Disk 0 Partition 1: System Reserved Total Size: 100mb Free Sapce 71, SYSTEM
Disk 0 Partition 2: Corsair 240 SSD Total Size: 223.5gb Free Space 56GB Primary

There's just simply no way I can do a complete wipe of this SSD. =( Are the NAND chips messed up?

ok the big guns come out now.
download a copy of puppy linux/mint linux/any bootable live linux distribution. put that on a thumb drive and boot to linux.
Linux has her own rules and see's windows rules as cute and easily trashed. using linux you can remove the partition, or remove the windows 10 installation folder that windows herself says is untouchable. when windows says no linux says DONE.

Thank you I appreciate your guidance. Is this the same as Rufus to USB thumb drive? So sorry mate, I've never ventured onto Linux, but I will try this.

what is the smallest linux you recommend? I'm just doing this to format the disk correct? I will still be using Windows as usual. thnx
