Best PSU >= 850W for 3570k build?

Here is my build:

i5-3570k - 100W
GIGABYTE GA-Z77MX-D3H - 100W
Corsair Vengeance 32GB(4x8GB) -15W x4
2TB 7200 RPM Hard drive (Raid) 10W x 5
240GB SSD - 10W
Radeon HD 7850 OR GTX 660 (CF/SLI) - 100W x 2
Fans - 3W X 5

Total = 535W * 1.5(Efficiency Multiplier) = 800W

So far I'm considering:

Nooo, LOL. 1000W would be more like a tri or quad GPU config. 750W is plenty for a dual card setup.

Also, that 500W recommendation is for total system wattage, not just the GPU.

500w is for the whole system, the card is a small part of that.

Anyways they over estimate on the recommendation. 500w should be able to run 2 7850s.

Can someone verify my systems power consumption breakdown, according to it I should be going with about 800W.

The calculator I just used http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp recommends 457W (assuming everything you put is correct and I put it in the calculator correctly).

That sounds a little low to me, but regardless, I can guarantee you that you don't need 800W. 650W would do...

A lot of that 500W is simply because many cheap 400W PSUs fail at 300-350W. A high-end system with a single 7870 draws ~320W from the wall, which means ~290W DC for system components assuming 90% PSU efficiency, less than 175W of which being the 7870.

When you add a second GPU card, you do not double the number of motherboards, fans, CPUs, HDDs, etc. in the system so that part of the power budget which may account for ~150W does not get doubled, only the card's nominal power does, which means "only" ~175W more. This brings the power requirement in the neighborhood of 470W so in principle, a PSU rated for 550W continuous power would be sufficient.

For safety margin, headroom and higher efficiency, you want to operate the PSU at less than 75% load which knocks optimal PSU selection in the 700-850W ballpark.

I'd use an 850 watter if you are OC'ing the CPU and 660 Ti HesGPU's, 750 if not.

For the price, nothing can touch the Antec CP-850 (10.0 jonnyguru performance rating)

It is completely unmatched by any ATX unit on the market I can think of. You'd have to spend twice as much as this thing costs to find the next best thing, performance wise.

You'll need to use a Antec case (1200, DF-85, P183 or P193) to use it though.....all four of which are superb cases.

The HX850 is a better PSU than the AX series .... at leats if you are interested in voltage stability and ripple ..... which is far more important that efficiency.

Finally with the $210 560 Tis (900Mhz version) having a performance edge over the $260 7850 (Guru3D's game test suite), I wouldn't have that on my list.....nVidia can't release the 660 Ti at a comparable price / performance as the 7850 as they would be competing with their own 560 Ti.

Its being said the price point of the 660 is 200 - 300, maybe 660ti 350, 560ti might out perform 7850 on a few games, but ati is still a better buy in this case. Anyway I don't want to change the topic here, You should check out this thread about the 660 vs 7850:
