I'm trying to determine what RAID setup to use. Can you help?
I currently have about 3TB of media. It exist on two hard drives I keep in RAID 1 in case one drive fails.
I want to expand my setup as I'm about to begin storing much larger media files.
I don't have the desire to spend the money for a large array of SSDs so I'll be buying ~3TB HDDs for this system. I would buy SSDs if it solved a problem but the only issues I've had comes from bottle-necking due to download speeds over cellular or slow Wifi outside of my home. I don't see a solution to that.
Backups are a must but outside of that, I'm open to any suggestions.
What's the best RAID level to use? I've tried to read up on this on my own and I feel that I'm in over my head.
In case this matters, the media is accessed across the network in my home and through a Subsonic server which allows me and some others to access this media outside of my home network. At most, there are 4 people accessing this media at one time (that's rare) and some of this media is transcoded on the fly, depending on transfer speeds. The media consists of music, videos, and pictures.
You can see my setup by mousing over my avatar. The hard drives are not listed there because they're currently on a different computer.
I appreciate any help you can give. Even a link to a good guide would be much appreciated.
