Welcome back to Tom's Forum! :)

The Sandy Bridge works best with DDR3-1600 and I'd look at a 4x4GB Kit ; Maximus IV GENE (LGA 1155). IF your plan is to OC >4.5GHz then DDR3-1866~DDR3-2133, but in general I don't recommend those frequency kits if unfamiliar w/ OC'ing. The gains are minimal.

Therefore, for more trouble free Gaming:
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231429
I read the reviews, in short folks who have no clue how to properly set their RAM.
CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233143

DDR3-1600 CAS 9-9-9-24-2N @ 1.50v

BIOS:

Easy way:
AI Overclock Tuner -> XMP
Save and Exit = Yes

Manual way / my preference:
AI Overclock Tuner -> Auto
DRAM Frequency -> DDR3-1600MHz
DRAM Timing Control /enter
DRAM CAS# Latency -> 9
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay -> 9
DRAM RAS# PRE Time -> 9
DRAM RAS# ACT Time -> 24
-
DRAM Timing Mode -> 2N
-
DRAM Volatge -> 1.50v~1.55v ; often +0.05v helps with 4xDIMM
Save and Exit = Yes

my system is still in the build phase ,trying to get the scoop on what ram would go best with the system in progress. have experience with lvl up and smart doctor ,to some extent, new system is considerably different at least i want to believe it to be . looking at what i have ,i just want to put in the best ram for what i have .iv'e looked at the choices and it's just to much to figure out.looked at the Asus compatibility page and it starts at 2400 and goes to 1600 . i plan on eventually getting dual 580's so whatever i get it needs to span from what i have to what i'll get . do you see my dilemma ? would like at least 8 gigs at a reasonable price as this set up wasn't cheap . been collecting parts for awhile ...
