For gaming? 2 x 4GiB RAM (dual channel). 8GiB RAM total. No game AFAIK requires more than 8GiB RAM

If you have to have 16GB then 2 x 8GB will usually run at higher clock speeds than 4x4GB because of the lower electrical load on the memory bus hardware.

The speed of DDR4 makes no difference in games, as long as you have 8gb or more your good to go.
