Hello

A member of the family with few experience about computers, in other country, needs buy an external SSD starting with 1TB of capacity to storage.
It to save videos and photos and some files

It to be connected for PC and Laptop based on Windows 10 Home and macOS respectively. The cable connector should be based on USB.

According with your own experience - Could you share 2 or 3 links from Amazon? It based on:
  • Manufactures
  • Performance
  • Capacities
  • Time of live
It with the purpose to let him select the best choice according with a branch of options

Thanks in advance

In my experience it doesn't matter as long as it's based on some well known SSD make and model like Samsung. Kingston. Patriot.....
SATA SSD based external up to USB3.0 will all be same speed but M.2 NVMe would require USB3.1 2nd or3rd gen for full performance

And for these 3 mentioned - what is your best recommendation?

SATA SSD based external up to USB3.0 will all be same speed but M.2 NVMe would require USB3.1 2nd or3rd gen for full performance

It is for an:
  • Old PC Desktop Dell
  • Macbook Pro 2011
  • new laptop Asus ZenBook

The USB connector is going to be used for all of them

I use 1TB and 2TB Samsung X6 portable SSDs. Cheaper than the more recent X8 and X9. You'll need a USB-C to USB-A adapter cable to use the X6 with older computers. I seem to remember my X6 came with this cable.

Regardless of what drive you buy, it'll need to be formatted exFAT to simplify connection to both Windows and MAC PCs. For this reason, most manufacturers use exFAT, but if it comes formatted NTFS (for Windows) you might have problems reading it on some MACs.

I suggest buying two identical drives, so you can keep two copies of all important files away from the computers. If any of your computers are hit by Ransomware or stop working, it's good to have multiple copies on external drives.

Thanks for the valuable feedback.

Yes. In my side my Pendrives are formatted with FAT32, it to use them in Windows 10 and macOS (both laptops) and even in Linux. Huge thanks for the mention of the adapter ... it because the new laptops comes with USB-C.

Thanks for "backup" suggestion too.
