What would be the best screen resolution for a budget(Under $500) laptop?
15.6 " Touchscreen with 1366 x 768 resolution
17" Non touchscreen with 1600 x 900
15.6" Non Touch 1280 x 1080

I know the 1280 x 1080 is the best bet but it inst exactly the specs I want, so I am looking into to other possibilities. There is no issues with the last, just price vs performance ration isn't the best

Personally I consider 1600x900 the minimum for 15.6" and 17" laptops, with 1920x1080 being ideal. 1366x768 is ok on 11" and passable on 13". But way too low for 15.6 (you can easily see the individual pixels in text, and icons, text, and UI elements end up being huge). In this type of situation I would suggest waiting for a good sale to turn up as 1080p laptops do frequently show up under $500. Try the Dell, Lenovo, and HP Outlet stores. Those are canceled orders (new), customer returns (refurbished), and laptops with cosmetic damage (scratch & dent), and frequently sold at a steep discount compared to retail new.

Also, assuming you're in the U.S., set up price alerts on one of the deals sites so you're quickly informed if there's a good laptop sale.

Also, double-check the screen on the last one carefully. There used to be 1280x1024 monitors, but I've never heard of a laptop using that resolution. The screen is almost square (5:4 aspect ratio). More than likely it's 1280x720 or 1920x1080.
