So I'm looking to buy a monitor. I'm an FPS gamer which means I play a lot of shooter games like CS:GO, COD and many other FPS games. What is the best response time for fps gaming??? And how much is the response time of the monitors in e-sports league, specifically in the CS:GO category of e-sports.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

The best response time, theoretically, is 0. The lower the better. However, the lowest you are going to find on consumer monitors is 1.

Before I go any further, there is a LOT of misinformation about response time and what is actually is...

It is NOT the time it takes for the actions you do with your mouse/keyboard to be represented in game. That is input lag.

What it is, is the time it takes for the pixels on the screen to turn from one colour to another.... and this is where it gets tricky.

There is no standard for response time measuring. Some companies measure how long it takes for a pixel to turn from Black to White, some from Black to White and back to Black again, and some go from Grey to another shade of Grey instead. The...

There is no standard for response time measuring. Some companies measure how long it takes for a pixel to turn from Black to White, some from Black to White and back to Black again, and some go from Grey to another shade of Grey instead. The result of this means that reported response times don't actually mean all that much, as 1ms on one monitor is the equivalent of 5ms on another.

As such, it is fairly accurate to say any monitor with a sub-5ms response time will be absolutely fine for your intended purpose.

Something you will notice much more than RT is refresh rate (i.e. how many times your monitor can refresh the frame it is displaying - the higher, the more fluid and smooth everything looks). If you have the budget, pick up a 100+hz monitor.
