[SOLVED] Best rgb ecosystem for older systems?

Ask yourself one question. Is it worth it.

The Hue2 is great, it'll hook up to a serious amount of lighting, with decent software control. But just the box with 4 strips is $70. That doesn't include the extras. Like the fans and ram covers. Fans are @ $30 each for decent fans. You could easily spend $300 just on rgb.

Or get a new case like the NZXT H500i, that has most of that already included, uses the same software. 2 strips, 2 fans and built in case controller. For $120.

As to whether any particular off-brand/generic rgb will work with anything is unknown. That's up to the generics themselves, but if they don't specify they work with mystic light, grid, hue+, Auros etc then it's a good chance they won't. They will work independently, but not as part of the 'ecosystem'.

Those ram covers specify :
  • Compatible with ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync, ASROCK AURA RGB
That doesn't include Hue, Hue+, Grid or even Gigabyte RGB Fusion.

If you're going to RGB, especially on a system that doesn't currently support it natively, your first order of business should be throwing any notion of "budget" out the window.

Also, when it comes to "generic" hardware and accessories, try to keep in mind the very specific nature of the word "generic", because that is exactly what you will likely be getting and to my experience anything that is generic is typically to be avoided if you want to avoid headaches or nightmares.
