I have BEFSR41 that isn't working properly as a router, it drops the connection after about 1-45 mins at random and has to be used as a switch with modem doing DHCP.

It failed as a router with HN7000S and ViaSat's (exede's) SurfBeam2 modem. The SurfBeam2 modem isn't doing DHCP in a way I am able to share files.

So, what would be the best I could do for $40 ? Someone said: http://www.amazon.com/Mikrotik-RB750-RB-750-Mini-Router/dp/B004EI0EG4

However it looks complicated and not just "plug it in, change admin password, and go at it" like this: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WR841N-Wireless-Router-300Mpbs/dp/B001FWYGJS/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1412378016&sr=1-1&keywords=router .

What are your takes on what is the best I could do ?

Its a little over $40 but the netgear wdr3500l has a quick cpu and 64gb of ram and that makes it one of the best in its class. If ever interested it does have a broadcomm processor and it is really easy to reflash to tomato firmware which will make it make it perform more efficiently as well as more features.

Zero. All wired devices. I'll just try to turn off the WAP first thing so I don't have neighbors using up my 10 GBs.

Also only one NIC can do 1000 , so not worried about 10/100 only.
