Long Version Question:
For Valentine's Day I bought my wife Sims 3. Recently I received a Dell Vostro 200 Slim for free. I had a PCI Wireless Adapter I had purchased for my Dell 8200, so I put the adapter in the Vostro 200 for the simple convenience of having wireless, so I thought. The problem I had was getting the wireless to connect to the internet. After hours of troubleshooting and trying to figure out why the wouldn't stay connected to the internet, I opted to install the adapter back into the Dell 8200 knowing the card worked in this desktop. After installing Sims 3 onto the Dell 8200 and after hours of downloading completed we were told the video card on the Dell 8200 is not compatible with Sims 3!
So my question is would it be better to purchase a Video Card for the Dell 8200 which is slower than a snail or upgrade the Dell Vostro 200 which is also slower than a snail? I don't need both computers but I would like one computer that works efficiently as I do have two boys and would like to have a computer that works without having to swear at it every 5 minutes of use.
Upgrades: The Dell 8200 is maxed out with memory. I purchased extra memory for both extra slots of memory a few years ago.
Short Version Questions:
1) Can I swap components from either the Dell 8200 to the Dell Vostro 200 or vice versa to make a more efficient desktop?
2) Should I focus on the Dell 8200 upgrade or the Dell Vostro 200 upgrade?
3) Can I pull the extra ram from the Dell 8200 and place it in the Dell Vostro 200?
4) What will make either one of these machines work more efficiently?
Again I only need one machine to work. If I can use one for parts I am fine with that. Please help me I'm an idiot when it comes to computer components. I'm a researcher and I am built with common sense so suggestions are valuable to me. I recently salvaged a 50" Hitachi of ours after investigating the guts and finding two swollen capacitors. So I hate throwing things away as well. Does that make me cheap?!
