Question Best simple encryption for my laptop, thumbdrives, external HD?

Hi guys, can someone recommend a free and simple encryption program that I can put on all my different devices, windows 8 laptop, thumbdrives, and 2 external harddrives. I want something i just put in a password on startup and it logs in quickly and its ready to go. I see so many options out there and not sure which are small enough to put use on everything and say not take up all the space on the thumbdrive or might take forever to gain access to your computer. For external drives, check whether Windows bult-in BitLocker will do the job for you. You might also want to check VeraCrypt (successor of TrueCrypt), especially if you want this media be usable on other PCs as well.
