i recently sold my r9 290 and i am looking for a monitor upgrade and of course a new GPU as well so i am going to go with a 4k display but the problem is that no card is capable of true 4k gaming yet i can wait till October 2017 is needed but not more than that so should i wait or just buy the best GPU in my budget? Also i wont mind if the fps hover around 45 should not dip below 30 though
my budget is under 500$ for the card only also it will be helpful if you could provide me some 4k display suggestions
my specs-
i5 6600k @ 4.8Ghz
16GB G skill Ripjaws
Asus Z170 Pro gaming Mobo
850w seasonic S12 ii

Solution
$400 you are looking at a high end 1080p card to mid end 1440p at most (GTX 1070). 4K is going to be quite a stretch on this GPU. But regardless by October, Vega and the upcoming RX 500 series will be out and hopefully you can find a card within your budget at this time that offers somewhat reasonable 4K performance. I would recommend saving a bit more up if you want to go 4K, looking at a GTX 1080/1080 Ti. In my opinion 1440p 144 Hz is the better choice at the time being. Hope this helps :)

A single 1080 ti will run most games close to max settings at 4k 60fps. You can get a 1080 for a little over 500 now that the 1080 ti has released, it will also do pretty well in 4k for the majority of games

However in my opinion you would be better off going with a high refresh rate 1440p monitor. Personally I would much rather have say a 144hz 1440p monitor than a 60hz 4k monitor, pixels aren't everything especially when it comes to gaming.

I'd say there are only three cards able to handle 4k 60FPS - GTX 1080 ti, Titan XP and Titan Xp (soon to be released)

The only problem with the latest Titan Xp is that it's MSRP is 1200 dollars but its going to be faster than the GTX 1080 ti and current Titan XP
